Summer Term FAQ
Summer Term runs May 20th to August 11. Most classes are offered in six week sessions. The first six week session, Summer 1, runs May 20-June 30. The second six week session, Summer 2, runs July 1-August 11. Some classes may follow a different schedule, so be sure to check the dates when registering.
Summer Term is composed of two six week summer sessions. You may take up to 8 units per session. Students wishing to take more must seek the approval of their academic advisor.

Everything, from major requirements and pre-reqs, to GEs, experiential learning opportunities, and arts classes. Summer Term classes are offered in a mixture of in-person, online, and asynchronous modes.
Summer Term is intended to complement the Fall and Spring semesters through additional opportunities to help you maximize your time at USC. Whether you want to accelerate your degree by finishing up in less than four years; making a head start towards a Progressive Degree Program (PDP); add a minor or explore new directions; or develop a marketable new skill, summer is the perfect time to explore your options and get ahead.
Summer classes require the same level of attention and rigor as classes taught in Fall or Spring. With that in mind, the availability of more online and Summer Flex classes is designed to maximize flexibility during the summer. For example, full time students enrolled in 12 units over Summer Term might schedule themselves for one in-person class and one online class in summer session 1, and a Summer Flex class in summer session 2. Mixing modalities and spreading classes across both sessions allows you to manage your workload while also making space for all the other things you want to do, such as internships, work, and travel.
Assuming the classes you want are being offered online, yes you can. Summer classes allow you to continue your USC education from anywhere in the world.
Summer Flex classes are online flipped classes that combine asynchronous, self-paced learning with some synchronous faculty-student interaction. Instead of meeting on Zoom for the full class time as in a regular online class, students enrolled in Summer Flex classes engage with course materials on their own time before joining with classmates for shorter working sessions during the week. The type of self-paced work depends on the course, but could include quizzes, writing assignments, engaging in research, participating in discussion boards, peer editing, and creating presentations. The Summer Flex format allows students to fit their learning to their schedule, while making class meetings as focused and productive as possible.
